TIMED STATUS: Successfully Launched on December 7, 2001

The primary science objective of the TIMED mission is to understand the energy transfer into and out of the Mesosphere and Lower Thermosphere/Ionosphere (MLTI) region of the Earth's atmosphere (energetics), as well as the basic structure (i.e., pressure, temperature, and winds) that results from the energy transfer into the region (dynamics). The core region of the TIMED mission is from 60 to 180km in altitude.

The University of Colorado is an active partner in the TIMED program with 4 principal investigators on the mission. These each investigation along with the PI and department affiliation are listed below
